Among the projects I've done in the past, I've story-edited for journalists and students, done rewriting/ghostwriting, provided manuscript consultation for creative writers who are trying to revise novels and creative-nonfiction books, and offered "writing coaching" for aspiring writers, often involving one-on-one meetings and story editing.

My experience as an occasional faculty member at several colleges and universities has guided me in this work, as well as my work for several magazines and book publishers as a contributing journalist, guest editor and copy editor.

At universities, this work has included my position on the associate faculty at the Graduate Journalism School at Columbia University since 2001, where I've specialized in writing style and have taught an occasional course on immigration, in which globalization is a key topic. I've also taught long-form journalism and creative writing at Ohio State University, where I was writer in residence for one semester, Sarah Lawrence College and UC Irvine, where I received my MFA in fiction. And, I have provided free workshops through arts-council and other grants at the public high schools of Santa Ana, California; the AIDS Services Center of Columbus, Ohio; and junior high schools in rural Virginia.

My work as a professional editor has spanned guest-editing assignments for Science and Spirit magazine, consulting editing for Yoga + Joyful Living Magazine, in-house copy editing for Architectural Digest magazine and freelance editing at many magazines and book publishing houses including New York Magazine, Conde Nast, HarperCollins and Scholastic Inc. A fluent Spanish speaker and a proficient speaker of French, I also offer some translation services.
