ekimagenonfictionMy award-winning essays and journalism on topics ranging from the experience of riding the public buses in Los Angeles to the state of free trade on the Mexican border have been published in The Village Voice, The Nation, Glamour, Self and many other publications. My adventures have brought me to cover the underground pot trade in Humboldt County, how the Internet began matching adopted children with their birth famlies and subsequently changed the face of adoption law, the war in Chiapas, the assassination of a Mexican presidential candidate, a mob attack on an innocent tourist from Alaska in Guatemala, political collusion that stymied the investigation of the murder of a US Peace Corps worker in Guatemala, the Northridge earthquake and the Loma Prieta earthquake. Check out some picks to the left.

My creative nonfiction has been awarded citations and grants from New Millennium magazine, the Thurber House, Ragdale Foundation and others, while my journalism has been awarded citations from Project Censored, FAIR, EMMA and more.

I studied journalism at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. It all started there.
